JobMate is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your job search data is personal and sensitive, and we've designed our Service to minimize data collection and maximize your control.

1. Our Privacy-First Approach

JobMate is designed to work primarily with local storage on your device. Most of your job search data—including saved job listings, company research, notes, and reminders—is stored locally on your device and encrypted with AES-256 encryption.

We do not require an account to use core features of JobMate. Account creation is optional and only necessary if you wish to sync data across devices or access certain premium features.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an optional account or make a purchase, we collect:

- Name: To personalize your experience and communicate with you
- Email Address: For account authentication, order confirmations, and important service updates
- Payment Information: Processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your complete payment details on our servers

When you use JobMate's browser extension and dashboard, you provide:

- Job Listings Data: Company names, job titles, locations, salaries, descriptions, and URLs you choose to save
- Personal Notes: Any notes, tags, or custom information you add to saved jobs
- Resume/CV: Optional upload for AI-powered fit score features (Pro plan)

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

- Web Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and device type for compatibility purposes
- Usage Data: Basic analytics to improve the Service (e.g., feature usage, error logs)

We do NOT track which specific jobs you view, which companies you apply to, or the content of your job search.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information solely to:

- Provide and improve the Service
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Send transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets)
- Provide customer support
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations

We do NOT:
- Sell, rent, or trade your personal information
- Share your job search data with recruiters, employers, or third parties
- Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes without explicit consent
- Track your browsing behavior across other websites

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage

By default, your job search data is stored locally on your device with AES-256 encryption. This means:
- We cannot access your saved jobs, notes, or research
- Your data remains on your device unless you explicitly choose to sync
- If you uninstall the extension, your local data is removed

4.2 Optional Cloud Sync

If you choose to enable sync (optional, Pro plan feature), you can:
- Back up data to your own GitHub repository
- Back up data to your own iCloud account
- Enable sync across your devices

When you use optional sync, data is encrypted before transmission and we do not have access to the unencrypted version.

4.3 Account Data

If you create an account, we store your name and email on secure servers. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption, firewalls, and secure access controls.

5. AI Features and Third-Party Services

5.1 AI Processing

JobMate offers AI-powered features (company insights, fit scores, writing assistance). You choose how AI processes your data:

- Local AI: Processing happens entirely on your device (completely private, no data leaves your device)
- Cloud AI: You provide your own OpenAI API key, and requests are sent directly from your device to OpenAI using your account. We do not see or store these requests or responses.

5.2 Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

- Stripe: Payment processing (see Stripe's privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy)
- MongoDB Atlas: Account data storage (encrypted)
- Resend: Transactional email delivery
- OpenAI (optional): AI features when you use your own API key

We do not share your job search data with any third-party service.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

- Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete it
- Account Data: Retained while your account is active
- Payment Data: Retained for tax and legal compliance (typically 7 years)

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at bartzalewskidev@gmail.com. Your job search data stored locally can be deleted by uninstalling the extension or clearing local storage.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data
- Export: Download your data in CSV or JSON format
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from non-essential communications

JobMate is operated from Poland. If you use the Service from outside Poland, your information may be transferred to and processed in Poland or other countries. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.
